Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis Mahavidyalaya, Baranagar (formerly Bonhoogly College of Commerce) was established in 1965 as a private evening Commerce College affiliated to the West Bengal State University (WBSU), Barasat since 2008. The idea of an evening Commerce College, dream of many an educated person of the Baranagar-Kamarhati area, became reality through untiring efforts of a few educationalists and persons interested in education and social development.
It gives me immense pleasure to introduce the academic prospectus of Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis Mahavidyalaya, a historically significant academic venture. The world is facing an unprecedented time due to COVID 19 and I greatly appreciate the understanding and flexibility of the students and staff of the college as the situation continually changes. The institution has challenged itself to achieve more than is expected. It has been setting benchmarks of unparalleled success without compromising on quality and value based education in scientific, commercial and professional streams. After the period of fifty years, the college has earned a place of pride by virtue of its dedicated scholarly pursuits. Blessed with the vision of imparting quality education and know-how in every area of academic and vocational training, the college provides the opportunity of blended learning by combining traditional campus classroom teaching with e-learning through online mode. It is our strong conviction that our students shall be able to find their way to an enlightened future in career and research under our guidance.
Dr. Shyamal Karmakar
The environment of learning and enhancement of knowledge has always been conducive to the students of this college. Ever since becoming the Principal, I have been impressed by the sincerity of all the students, teachers and educators. The ever-present tasks of betterment of infrastructure, renovation of classrooms, provision of clean potable water, and continuance of a trusting and successful communication amongst all beneficiaries are being tirelessly undertaken.
By writing this, I aim to convey the message of hope and cooperation to all concerned, and about the continuation of the collaborative effort that has borne fruit in the form of the strong foundation of our college and its merits. May there be regular attendance of all students; may their thirst for knowledge be quenched in the presence of gifted and capable teachers. May the light of education illuminate the young hearts. My best wishes to all of my dear students.
Lastly, I pay my respects to the President of the College Governing Body, and pray for greater accomplishments for our beloved institution.
